The National Geographic Museum is an ever-changing display of the world in all its vibrant wonder. Visitors are sure to experience something new each time they visit. National Geographic magazine started out as the National Geographic Society's official journal, the first publication of which came out in October of 1888.
More than 300 research, conservation, and exploration projects are funded by the National Geographic Society.
Past researchers and explorers that the the Society has funded include: excavator of Machu Pichu Hiram Bingham, discoverer of the ruins of the sunken Titanic Robert Ballard, and primatologist Jane Goodall.
